Branding and Design: Logo, Business Card, Letterhead, Website.

William / Architect is the practice of New York based Architect William Rockwell.

I designed the brand for William / Architect with the concept of architecture in mind. Using typographical elements (namely the Slash) to emphasis the architecture of the practices name. I also utilized Univers as its clean, clear lines and legibility lend itself to the precision of the architectural industry.

Back in 2007 I was leaving New Zealand and moving to the New York so decided to have a get together with my friends. Using a vinyl cut technique I created these invites.

Design: Rebranding

Heights and Hills (H&H) promotes successful aging in place. H&H is a Brooklyn based non-profit organization that provides case management services for older adults allowing them to live in their home and the community at large.

H&H (formerly Heights and Hill Community Council) had been awarded a grant from the local government to provide their service for a wider community in Brooklyn. The feeling of the H&H board was that their 40 year-old brand needed to be updated to include and appeal to the new communities.

For this client it was important to develop a new brand that would not alienate their existing communities. We wanted to develop a brand that would communicate development within the organization and not change.

The Heights and Hill Community Council had been referred to as Heights and Hills by its own staff and clients for a number of years but had never made the name official. We adopted this natural name development for the rebranding as a way to solidify the existing communities and their rich history with the organization. The name was also inclusive enough to refer to the Brooklyn community as a whole.

The organizations previous logo had utilized the Brooklyn bridge as its identifying symbol. When developing the new logo I wanted to continue with the concept of development rather than change so I kept this community identifier. The bridge also alludes to support and ties in aptly with the organizations role, namely "supporting brooklyn's older adults." The colors utilized are blue and grey. The warm blue communicates trust, truth, authority and stability. The grey communicates the status quo (aging in place) while still being dark enough for readability.

Personal Project: Party Invite.

On the 27th of September 2008 my flatmates and I finally got around to throwing our flippin' flatwarming party. This image was the invite. A composite of two photos and digital type. I created the flippin' type. The party was good fun.

Personal Project: Poster

So often events in our lives are lost to memory. In March 2009 a bunch of my friends and I went up to a cabin in New Hampshire for a weekend away from the city. I decided to document our time there in a poster. Dividing up the poster into a time grid I chose images taken by everyone and displayed them with the time they were taken. A glimpse of a memory.

Personal Project: Homemade Gingerbeer

Living in the US and about 9,000 miles away from New Zealand I sometimes miss the things I grew up with such as fish 'n' chips, L&P, lamb roasts, pavlovas, hokey pokey and especially gingerbeer. Some of these things you can get in New York but they're just not the same. I know nostalgia is a hard thing to compete with but I had to try. Through trial and tribulations a recipe was developed that comes close to the memory. It also works pretty well as a gift for my fellow expatriates.

Branding: Print and Online.

Windward Heart Center is an Hawaiian based Cardiology center offering consultive and diagnostic services.

In 2007, Dr Sonny Wong set up his cardiology practice in Oahu, Hawaii and needed to name and brand it. Through consultation the name of Windward Heart Center was decided on as the practice was located on the windward side of Oahu, was a cardiology practice and was based on the principle of allround health, both preventitive and reactive care.

For the logo I stuck with the principles used in developing the name, those of location, the heart and allround health. As a new endeavor, it was also important to develop a brand that would be relatable and easily recognizable. I created the logo based on the Hibiscus flower, the Hawaiian state flower, and the often used symbol of the heart. The typeface used is Akzidenz Grotesk, a familar yet destinctive typeface. The colors used are red, blue and white. Red and blue as representations of the circulatory system, the balance of blood flow and the importance of the heart. White is utilized as a symbol of cleanliness, friendly authority and health. Together these three colors present a familiar color pallete.

Branding: Print and Online.

In 2010, San Diego-based digital information artist Tim Schwartz travelled across America making week-long stops at historical societies, art institutions, and local archives to engage with communities and their specific archived pasts. In so doing he activated discussions focused on how the process of digitizing archives can energize stored information and at the same time, question what is lost through this process.

Tim approached me with the intent of developing a brand that would represent his project and help with reaching out to potential societies, institutions and local archives.

There are two main themes of Tim's project that I drew on for inspiration and development. Firstly, the "road trip" aspect and secondly, the representation of data. I developed the logo based on US road signs utilizing a stylized version (Road Geek) of the official US road sign typeface (FHWA). Road signs and their typefaces being the epitomy of location specific data representation. I developed the color pallete based on the common phrase "not everything is black and white" as it seemed apt to apply to a project based on the perception of data. It also met with Tim's budget restraints. Again, using the aspect of location specific data representation, I developed the use of road maps as a graphic element. By printing a road map on the back of the letterhead it allowed the letters recipient to perceive data in a new light. That is, on standard 20# paper the road map, when printed in black, appears backwards and as a watermark for the reader.

hellothisismy.com is a collection of work and play by Elliott McCreadie.

Elliott is a graphic designer currently based in New York but originally from the far off shores of New Zealand. For the past few years Elliott has been working with New York based non-profit organizations as the head graphic designer for the fundraising consultancy Wingo Inc.

Through this role Elliott designs, develops and applies identities for both non-profit organizations and specific fundraising events. He also creates print and online materials whose purpose is to communicate with donors and cultivate gifts to support client missions. As well as the creative side, Elliott is also responsible for managing the production of all design projects and initiatives.

Elliott also likes to draw, cut, stick, erase, print, screen, stuff, sew, look, color, copy, paste, repeat, read, view, try, fail, try again, spray, hammer, saw, paint, eat, pack, unpack, go, develop, peel, taste, read, understand, play, kick, run, climb, list, push, pull, learn...
